The Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band

Student Policy:

Mission Statement:

The Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band is a non-profit organization committed to the preservation and propagation of the ancient arts of bagpiping and drumming.  The time our members donate is because of common goals to maintain the presence of an Irish bagpipe band in Minnesota and to promote Celtic music.  From these goals spring the bands commitment to community that encourages us to offer lessons, free of charge, to those with similar objectives.

The Pipers & Drummers Covenant:

- The time commitment is great for both students and teachers.  Once a teacher is assigned a student both should be expected to have contact information for the other.  If either party will not be present, late, etc. it is expected that each would contact the other.

- It should be expected that students are practicing regularly.  Our services are offered with no charge not to lessen the commitment of either side, but to make our craft available to as many people as possible.  It is expected of students that they will commit themselves to their instrument as if they were paying for lessons; just as it is our responsibility to give as much attention to students as if we were being paid.

- This service is offered with a goal of creating future active bagpipers and drummers in the band and in the community.  At times this objective cannot be met by the type of lessons offered by our band.  It is because of this that an evaluation will be held at six-month intervals to determine the appropriateness of our services for each student.  At such a time if it is clear that our ability is not adequate to bring a student to proficient level it will be recommended that students seek different services.

- We are an organization that encourages participation and hopes that new students will become active in the band.  Students are encouraged to stay after their lesson for the band practice.  Membership for the band is acquired by an audition before our elected officers.  This position should not be sought without permission from one’s teacher.

Our Band:

The Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band is a bagpipe and drum band whose commitment is primarily to the community.  We seek to have high caliber bagpipers and drummers, yet our primary concern, as a band, is not focused on participating in competitions.  The commitment of our members is to a love of Irish, Scottish, and Celtic music.  It is because the camaraderie of the band is formed by common interest that we welcome anyone seeking to share our musical art.
